Noida (Uttar Pradesh), August 27: With the advent of elections in a state usually the law and order situation in India improves drastically. However, even though the state elections in Uttar Pradesh are on the anvil, there is an increasing perception of deteriorating crime prevention, especially crime against women.
In another such incident, a man was booked by local police on
Tuesday after he was nearly caught in the act of raping a 10-year old dalit girl
in Greater Noida. The heinous crime happened on Monday.
The minor dalit girl was allegedly raped by the arrested
20-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida on Monday. The incident took
place in Greater Noida’s Dankur area.
The 10-year-old girl had gone to a farm along with her six-year-old
sister when she was sexually assaulted by the accused, according to the local
police officials. The accused gagged the girl and threatened her of dire
consequences if she shared her ordeal with anybody.
Meanwhile, the rape survivor’s younger sister managed to
escape and informed farmers working in the neighborhood fields. They came and
rescued the girl. However, the accused by that time had managed to escape the
crime scene.
Based on a complaint lodged by the family of the victim, the
police identified the accused and arrested him. “The suspect was roaming in the
area. There he laid eyes on the two girls, and feeling he had an opportunity to
indulge in sexual assault – he held the elder one and raped her,” says Arvind
Pathak, a local police officer.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter,
and will soon complete the investigation and file the case in the local courts.
A case has been registered against the man under section 376
of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Protection of
Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and SC/ST Act. The man has been sent
to judicial custody.
