Ahmedabad, Gujarat, August 23: A 17-year-old girl died soon
after she gave birth to a still born on Saturday in a hospital in Saraspur,
Ahmedabad. Soon after Gomtipur police registered a case of rape as it was
suspected that she was raped, being a minor.
The girl, complained of severe lower abdominal pain and bleeding and was taken to Shardaben Hospital in Saraspur. After examination the doctors determined her pregnancy and that she was about to give birth. The police were also informed since it was evident that the girl was a rape victim as she was a minor.
During delivery, her health deteriorated. She gave birth to a stillborn child and died soon after, said police personnel while speaking to Life News correspondent. The police station also said that Police Inspector JK Rathod was investigating the case. It was learnt that the victim went into a coma after delivery and died after 15-20 minutes after giving birth. The accused is unknown since the police were unable to take the victim's statement because of her condition.
Although the hospital had informed the police about the victim mentioning someone named Sahil, she was unaware of his whereabouts. The girl might be a victim of the rape about eight to nine months ago, suspects the police and they have also sent the DNA of the dead child for a forensic examination.
The accused is charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder (IPC 299), rape (IPC 376), (IPC 363) kidnapping, and under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act as the victim died while delivering the baby and was also raped, informed the police Life News.
