Accused booked for raping and blackmailing victim in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), September 22: Another rape incident has come to the fore and again this has been reported from Uttar Pradesh. Statistics increasingly are showing that the law & order situation in the state has been deteriorating under the present regime. Opposition parties have been regularly pointing to this fact but to no avail.

This present shocking and hideous sexual crime incident has been reported from the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow. Here a woman was allegedly raped by a man in Krishnanagar locality of the sprawling city. The victim was offered laced sweetmeat (laddoos) by the accused, who then took advantage of the opportunity and sexually assaulted the victim. The victim went into a semi-conscious state after consuming the intoxicated sweets and could not resist his assault.

While raping the victim, the accused also allegedly recorded the incident which he used to blackmail her with for seven months. He used to threaten her of making the recording viral if she did not pay him three lakh rupees.

The victim’s husband resides out of town due to his job. The accused Saurabh Singh and the victim became friends as they were neighbours. While using the video as the tool to extort money, he even used to misbehave with her. Mortgaging her jewelry, the victim somehow gave him two lakhs rupees, but the accused upped his demands to five lakhs rupees more. Looking for a resolution, she even went to his house to complain to his family members but they too supported the accused and ask her to leave.

The police arrested the accused on Sunday night after the victim registered a complaint against him at Krishnanagar police station. The accused has been presented in front of the court and then sent to jail in judicial custody. 

Inspector in charge Alok Kumar Rai said the victim complained that the accused Saurabh Singh has been raping her since February. As per police investigations, her allegations seem to be true and hence the police arrested the accused. Since Saurabh’s father and his brother have also been accused in the complaint, the police is probing their role in the crime.    

The victim has also alleged that while the accused threatened her several times of sharing the obscene video with her husband, he has already shown it to some people.
