New Delhi,
October 17: A female resident doctor from the prestigious AIIMS has accused a
senior male colleague of sexually assaulting her at a birthday party. The
suspect is absconding.
Delhi police
said the incident took place in September during a birthday party outside the AIIMS
campus. The incident was reported at the Hauz Khas police station on October
11. A police team on its arrival at the hospital found that the survivor was
also a doctor there.
“Her medical
reports were checked. She told the police that on September 26, one of her
senior doctors had forced himself upon her when she went for a birthday
celebration of another colleague,” said Benita Mary, DCP (south).
Police have
recorded the statement of the survivor before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code and have lodged a rape case under IPC sections 376 and
377, the DCP added.
“Multiple
teams have been formed and raids are being conducted to arrest the suspect,”
Mary said. “We are also using technical surveillance to trace him at the
earliest.”
Police is also questioning the other doctors who were present at the party.
