Vijayawada(Andhra Pradesh) August ,21: A stalker set ablaze a young woman in the Southern state of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday after the victim objected to stalking. The gruesome incident happened in Vizianagram, Andhra Pradesh.

 

The police said that the accused, identified as A Rambabu, works as a driver. He doused the victim in petrol and set her ablaze while she was sleeping. While the victim suffered 60 per cent burns, her sister and 5-year-old nephew were also burned while attempting to save her. All three injured are being treated at Maharaja District Hospital in Vizianagaram.

 

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took the incident seriously and directed officials to ensure better treatment for the victim. He also directed the police department to initiate stringent action against the accused, a media report said.

 

Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) National General Secretary and MLC Nara Lokesh condemned the incident and demanded the arrest of the criminals responsible for the ghastly attack.

 

The opposition legislator citing a prior incident, in which a girl was slashed to death on Independence Day in Guntur, called for an end to the “alarming rise in atrocities on girls” in the state.

 

“A psychopath set an innocent girl ablaze after pouring petrol on her while she slept at her home about midnight today. Another female was gang-raped yesterday in Guntur district's Rajupalem. A criminal mercilessly murdered Dalit girl Ramya the day before in Guntur city,” he said giving examples of recent cases of violence against women.
