Zirakpur (Punjab), September 23: An incident of sexual assault has occurred in Punjab’s Zirakpur (in Mohali district) which will make many wonder - how can a mother be so cruel to her own child?

A heart-wrenching incident has been reported from Zirakpur. Zirakpur police have filed a case based on a zero FIR registered at Civil Lines police station in Bhatinda. The zero FIR registered is for the alleged rape of a minor girl in a hotel room where nine are named as accused, including the mother of the victim, as she facilitated the crime.

The crime happened on 14 September in Zirakpur, when the victim’s mother sent the victim to a hotel in Zirakpur where six men raped her.

Kulwinder Kaur the mother of the victim had separated from her husband nine years back and she knowingly pushed her daughter into flesh trade for money. The mother sent the victim to a Zirakpur hotel where she was raped by several persons, said the minor in her complaint.

As per the complaint, Kulwinder Kaur (mother of the victim), Navi (a broker) resident of Savitri Town Zirakpur, Rahul of Hotel Sapphire, Zirakpur, and six other unidentified persons are accused of raping the victim. The police have also booked a manager of the hotel.  

Pained at the incident, the victim narrated her ordeal to the police. On 14 September her mother gave her Rs 700 and asked her to leave for Zirakpur. Around 12 noon she boarded a Volvo bus with instructions to disembark at Zirakpur where a man named Navi would be waiting. When she reached around 4 in the evening she saw Navi waiting for her in a car. The girl told police that she already knew Navi since he used to frequently come home to meet her mother. Navi first took the girl to his house and from there around 9 p.m. he asked her to accompany him to Hotel Sapphire.

When they reached Hotel Sapphire, they met a person named Rahul who transferred an amount of rupees ten thousand to Navi’s PayTm account, post which Navi left her in a hotel room with Rahul. After some time Rahul too left the room and six unknown persons entered the room and allegedly forcibly raped her.

At around 3 a.m. she somehow ran away from the hotel and booked a cab and reached Navi’s house. She pleaded with him to drop her at Chandigarh bus station. From there she reached Bhatinda and called her father to the bus stand. Her father and aunt came to pick her up and she shared her torment with them. She also emphatically told her father that her mother purposely pushed her into flesh trade for money.     

Since the minor registered the complaint in Bhatinda a zero FIR was first filed as the incident occurred in Zirakpur. After initial investigations, Zirakpur police filed a case against all the accused under sections 376 A, 376 D, 120 B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 3 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. All accused are absconding and none could be arrested till submission of this report. The victim is undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Bhatinda.

The victim is a fifteen-year-old minor, a student of class 10, and a resident of Civil Lines in Bhatinda. Her parents have separated years ago due to family disputes and she used to live with her mother in a rented house and her two younger siblings (sisters) lived with their father at his residence.
