Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), August 13: An utterly horrific incident has come to the fore in Kanpur, a city of Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday, a retired police officer has been arrested for raping a 13 year-old-minor girl.

On Sunday, the accused, a retired police officer Dinesh Chandra Tripathi who hails from Prayagraj, was watching television with his tenant’s 17-year-old son and their 13-year-old daughter at his house in Friends Colony. Later, the boy on feeling sleepy left the room but the girl stayed on viewing the TV. Utilizing this opportunity, and on finding her alone with him the accused allegedly raped her.

The parents of the Rape survivor when recounting the incident to the police said that they hailed from Maharajpur, have two children, and run a tiffin service. They further informed that they have rented a part of the house that belongs to Tripathi.

Later, when their daughter did not return for a long time, they went looking for her. When they reached the room where the girl was last seen, they found Tripathi in a compromising position outraging the modesty of the minor girl.

They are on record complaining that the accused threatened the family with dire consequences if they lodged a complaint against him.

The accused, Dinesh Chandra Tripathi served as a Station House Officer (SHO) of the Chakeri Police Station in Kanpur until a few years ago and had retired as an inspector in 2016.

The minor’s family reported the incident on Monday and a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Chakeri Police Station.

Medical examination of the girl has also been conducted and report is awaited.

However, this is not the first case of where police officers in Kanpur have been reported to be involved in such cases. Ten years back Amarjeet Shahi, CO of Chakeri circle had threatened and raped a 15-year-old girl for several days and just a month ago, Unnao CO Kripa Shankar Kanojia was found with a woman constable in an objectionable condition, who was later suspended by the SP of Unnao.
