Kozhikode (Kerala), September 12: With
the arrest of all four accused, two of them yesterday, Kerala Police seem to
have solved the much sensationalised Chevayur Gang Rape case swiftly enough. Local
police claim that a 32-year-old woman from Kollam was allegedly gang-raped by
the four accused, after forcing her to consume liquor and narcotic drugs.
All four arrested are
residents of Atholi in Kozhikode, while the victim had traveled over 300 kms
from Kollam. The victim seemed to have fallen in love with the main accused
Ajnas Anees (26) and had come on his invitation. The survivor was in touch with
the main accused for over two years through social media and they had initially
come in contact through TikTok.
The two had not met earlier and Ajnas had insisted that the woman travels
from Kollam to meet him in person, based on his insistence, she finally undertook
the journey. He led her to
a flat in the city, where he was subsequently joined by his friends. The
accused assaulted the victim one by one, after the main accused had raped her
once.
"The lady came to Kozhikode
by train on Wednesday. The sexual assault took place at a private hotel in
Chevarambalam," said an officer from Chevayur police station. The girl was
reportedly forced to consume liquor and given narcotic drugs. Then they took turns in raping her
and recorded the obscene videos before abandoning her near a private hospital.
They had threatened to post recordings and images of the incident on social
media if she reported it to the police.
“It was the hospital authorities who alerted the police,” said Assistant
Commissioner of Police, K Sudarshan, adding that the accused left her near a
hospital because they were frightened she might die. He stated that her
condition is presently stable.
The victim, who is currently being treated at the hospital, provided the
police with the phone number of the main accused as well as some other
information to assist them in locating the accused. Yesterday the victim had recognized two of the accused nabbed on
Friday.
Chevayur police have registered the
case under relevant sections like 376D of IPC and IT Act, among others.
According to authorities, one of the defendants has a criminal history.
