Amroha
(Uttar Pradesh), October 28: Additional District and Sessions Judge Awadesh
Kumar Singh has continuously been in the news for delivering strong punishments
and penalties to those found guilty of rape.
In yet another
case of abduction and rape that happened in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha nine years
back, the court has sentenced the guilty to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment
and a penalty of Rupees 13 thousand. (half of which will be given to the
victim) The accused was out on bail but after the court’s judgment, he has been
taken back into custody and sent to jail.
The sexual
assault incident took place on 6 November 2012, in a village under the
jurisdiction of the Hasanpur police station area from where the victim belonging
to a farmer family hails. The accused Bablu is a distant relative of the victim’s
brother-in-law and used to come to their house occasionally. He abducted the
13-year-old minor and forcibly took her with him and later raped her.
The victim’s
family searched for her everywhere but found no trace of her. Several months later
the victim was recovered from the captivity of the accused. When the family
members went to register a complaint, the police didn’t take any action. The victim’s
father then took the matter to the court. After being rebuked by the court, Uttar
Pradesh police had to register an FIR against the accused Bablu for kidnapping
and raping. Later the police had to also arrest the accused and present him in
the court. The accused was also able to secure bail from himself in the case
the sentence was pronounced.
This case
was pending in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Special
(POCSO Act) Awadesh Kumar Singh. On Tuesday, Basant Singh Saini, Special Public
Prosecutor (POCSO Act) argued for the prosecution. Later, the court found the
accused Bablu guilty, based on the evidence presented, and sentenced him to 12
years in jail. In addition, a punishment of Rs 13,000 has been levied on him.
