New Delhi,
October 27: Delhi Police on Monday have registered a ‘harassment’ case against
a 40-year-old sevadar (volunteer) at Kalkaji Mandir based on a complaint by a
15-year-old minor in the south district of the national capital.
Police,
based on the complaints by the 15-year-old and her parents, had to book the
sevadar from Sarai Julena under various sections of Indian Penal Code and POCSO
Act at the Amar Colony police station.
The minor
victim in her complaint submitted that she along with her father used to visit
Kalkaji temple daily and the accused, identified as Amit, a sevadar (volunteer
at the temple), met her during prayers and both exchanged numbers.
Later, the
accused started to stare at the girl. Initially the girl ignored him several
times, emboldened the accused Mandir sevadar persisted and also started sending
her indecent WhatsApp messages. When the parents of the minor objected to this,
the accused apologized.
“Later
however, after sometime, he again started harassing her and threatened her. He
also cropped the girl’s photo and uploaded it on his own WhatsApp status which
could be seen by others,” said a senior police official familiar with the case.
The police
officer also added that the accused Mandir sevadar is presently absconding and
that a manhunt has been launched to locate and arrest him at the earliest.
