Guntur
(Andhra Pradesh), September 11: On Wednesday night, a woman was allegedly raped
by four men in Sattenapalli near Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. A couple traveling by
bike was waylaid by the four accused on a highway, who manhandled and robbed
them and later sexually assaulted the woman.
Around
9pm, a couple were returning to their hometown after attending a function in
Guntur, when a group of four men stopped them at Paladugu crossroads, near
Medikonduru bypass road in Guntur district. Initially with the threat of weapons, the
couple was robbed of their cash and gold ornaments and subjected to physical
assault.
Later,
they took the woman to the fields adjacent to the highway and allegedly raped her
while they overpowered her husband. Much later the accused fled the spot.
At
around 1:30am the couple somehow managed to reach Sattenapalli police station to
register their complaint but were refused, since the crime spot was under Medikonduru
police station’s jurisdiction. Later some officials took mercy and informed their
counterparts in Medikonduru who registered their complaint and started
investigations.
Both
the victims are undergoing treatment at Guntur government hospital, while in a
bid to catch the accused, the police have questioned eight people.
