New Delhi, March 23: In yet another shocking
incident of brutal sexual crime reported from Uttar Pradesh, a 14-year-old girl
was allegedly raped and murdered by two youths in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s
Agra.
According to the police, on Friday afternoon, 18-year-old youth, identified as Rahul, gagged and dragged the 14-year-old girl to the nearby forest area when she had gone to answer nature’s call. He and another, a 15-year-old boy then raped the minor girl in the forest area. Police suspect that she might have got suffocated to death as the accused had gagged her with a cloth. Both accused later disposed off her body in a pond.
A case has been registered against the two accused under sections 376-D (gang-rape), 302 (murder), and 201 (disappearance of evidence), police said.
The minor girl’s family members began searching for her when she didn’t come back home after a considerable time. One of her family members found her body, following which the police were alerted and an investigation was launched.
The accused minor will be produced before the juvenile justice board and sent to a juvenile centre, they added.
The victim’s post-mortem report confirmed that she was sexually assaulted and the report stated “smothering” as the cause of her death. The police investigation also revealed that the accused Rahul used to work as a daily wage labourer for the victim’s father.
Both were taken into custody on Sunday, according Station House Officer Kamlesh Kumar. The police found that Rahul was sacked from the job and was also thrashed over some matter earlier so it is suspected that the sexual assault and murder could be an act of vengeance.
This rape and murder of a minor in Uttar Pradesh comes in the heels of many sexual crimes registered in the state in recent times. As many as 59,853 crimes were registered against women in 2019, according to National Crime Records Bureau, which is 14 percent of the total crimes against women in India.
