Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), 19 June:
A woman accused her brother-in-law of raping her in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh
in India after he went back on his word to marry her. However, police has not
registered her complaint so she has appealed to the superintendent of police
and additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of the region.
According to the victim, after the
death of her husband, her in-laws assured the woman that they would get her
married to the brother of her husband so she continued living with them and the
accused also established sexual relationship with her. The accused
brother-in-law had promised to marry her but now his marriage has been arranged
with another girl by his family.
The woman has accused her in-laws of
cheated, contending that they did not allow her to marry again and promised to
get her married with her brother-in-law. The accused on the pretext of marriage
has establish sexual relationship with the victim, she said.
When the victim went to her mother's
place, this marriage was fixed so when she returned on June 3, she was informed
that her brother-in-law's marriage had been arranged. However, when she opposed
the marriage, the woman was beaten by her brother-in-law and his family on June
9.
Following the alleged beating, the
woman informed her family members about the incident. The victim's family
members came to the in-laws house to discuss the issue but they also were
beaten up.
When the local police was asked, they refused to give any information in this matter. Now the victim has complained to SSP and ADG with this regard.
