Nandurbar (Maharashtra), September 8: An unusually shocking incident of murder has come to fore in Nandurbar. A 38-year-old married man who has two children, murdered a 23-year-old woman he was engaged in an extra-marital relationship with, brutally and later mutilated her face in a bid to prevent her from being identified.

The Surat resident man committed the crime 200 kms away in Maharashtra’s Nandurbar, again trying to hoodwink the police. The 23-year-old victim, had earlier threatened the accused, Vinay Rai, that she would file a complaint of rape against him if he does not marry her soon.

After getting a tip-off from Nandurbar police, Surat police caught the accused on Sunday. During investigations, the accused confessed that he murdered the deceased woman since she was threatening him of filing a rape complaint.

On August 24, the woman was found dead in a ghastly state near the railway tracks in Nandurbar district. The accused had slit the throat of the woman and also mutilated her face, feeling it will make it difficult to identify the deceased.

Vinay Rai, the accused, is a resident of Karang village in Mandvi Taluka of Surat district, and works in a factory in Karanj. However, he is a native of Khamori village in Sivan district of Bihar. Vinay Rai is married and has two children.

During interrogation, he revealed that the woman was also a native of Bihar and they were into an extra-marital relationship for the last two years. While traveling back to Surat from Bihar, he came to know that earlier too she was in a relationship with another man, whom she later sent behind bars in a rape case. Maybe he was fearing the worst for himself and decided to take this extreme action.

For implementing his plan, he took the woman to Nandurbar by train, and both got down a stop prior to Nandurbar station. Finding an isolated place near the tracks, he committed the heinous act and also mutilated her face badly.

Later, he returned back to his house in Surat and started working normally, so as to deflect all doubts from himself, said the police.
