Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh),
28 June: A man accused of raping his stepdaughter was apprehended by Lucknow
Police on June 23, six months after a complaint was lodged against him by his
wife.
The incident occurred
in Gurba village of Lucknow district when a man who was going by his fake name
Sanjay Singh married a widow who he befriended. The man first took up a room
near the house of the widow who was living with her 10-year-old daughter. After
marrying her he lived with the woman for ten years managing to hide his real
identity.
Last year, the man started
building pressure on the woman asking her to get some financial assistance from
her family members to start his garment business. When the woman didn't comply,
the man started mentally and physically torturing her.
In the meantime, the woman
learnt that her husband was operating under a false name. When she asked him why he hid his real
name, he got angry and raped his stepdaughter.
When the girl told her
mother about the rape, she took the matter to Gurba Police Station and lodged a
complaint against her husband on January 18, this year. So the police went to
look for Imran Khan alias Sanjay Singh to arrest him but he was not found.
Police inspector
Fareed Ahmad said that first they registered a case against Imran for dowry
harassment and hiding his identity. During the enquiry, they found that Sanjay
Singh was not his real name and that his real name was Imran Khan.
We raided Imran's
house, which is situated at Ghatmapur, he was absconding, said Inspector
Ahmad. But police kept the phone number of Imran under surveillance and on
Wednesday, they got information about his whereabouts and arrested him from
Tedhi Puliya.
