Ahmedabad (Gujarat), June 18: An incident of incest came to light when a 16-year-old revealed that she was allegedly being raped by her married elder brother for years in Makarba area in Ahmedabad in the western state of Gujarat in India. The victim kept quiet for three years as her brother, a daily wage labourer, had threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the rapes.
The accused elder brother (26) was the guardian of the victim since she lost her parents at an early age. Their father died when the girl was one year old and her mother died when she was eight-year-old. Since that time, the elder brother had custody of the victim.
The matter came to light when the wife of the accused asked the girl why she was not getting her periods for three months. On inquiry, the girl revealed her ordeal which began on January 29, 2019, when her brother barged into her room and forced himself on her. He then threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.
The victim said, since that time her brother continued to rape her whenever he found her alone in the house or when his wife was sleeping.
After her shocking revelation, she approached Sarkhej Police and lodged a complaint of rape with the help of her sister-in-law who has been facing domestic violence from her husband. All the three, the victim, her brother and sister-in-law lived in a rented accommodation in Makarba along with the two children of the brother, revealed a police officer.
"We sent the girl for a medical examination so we will know what is the outcome only after the report comes. We have arrested the accused and sent the girl back to live in the same house along with her sister-in-law where she was living earlier," said Sarkhej Police Inspector S G Desai.
The police has filed a First Information Report (FIR) and booked the accused under charges of rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
