Vadodara, Aug 18: Vadodara Police arrested six labourers on
Wednesday for the alleged rape and murder of a mother of two in just one day
with the help of police dog 'Java' and some swift investigations.
The incident occurred on Monday night when a 37-year-old woman
went missing. She had gone to collect grass for fodder. When her family and
other villagers went to look for her in the night after she didn't return home,
they found her body in a field in the village. The police was informed and a
case was registered in the wee hours on Tuesday.
The next day police searched the area along with Java who led them
towards a settlement less than a kilometre from where the body was found. When
the dog started barking at one of the labourers, police had their first
suspect. He confessed to his crimes during interrogation and also revealed the
names of the others involved in the crime. All six suspects have been arrested.
The six men were working for a rail project in a village in Karjan
Taluka in Vadodara district. All of them barring one of them are in their
twenties, informed the police. One of the accused is from Jharkhand while the
rest of them are from Uttar Pradesh.
Giving details to Life News correspondent, Superintendent of
Police of Vadodara (Rural) Sudhir Desai said, "We have sent the body for
postmortem and are awaiting the result. We have also sent all the suspects for
medical examination and we are waiting for the results."
The well trained dog Java played a key role in identifying the
suspects of the crime, the SP said. Java has been with the unit for around two
months and has been active in solving crimes, informed the police.
All the accused were later arrested on charges of gang-rape and
murder, Desai said, adding further investigation was underway.
