New Delhi, March 10: A police sub-inspector was arrested for raping a woman who had
come to police station to file a case against her husband on March 2 in Kherli
police station in Rajasthan. The police official raped her for three days on
the pretext of settling her divorce case.
The victim was called again on March 7 at the police station
where she was raped again. The police tried to hush up the case as she was
insisting on filing a rape case against the sub-inspector Bharat Singh. The
victim said she approached police as she didn’t want to divorce her husband.
However, the rape case was registered against the sub-inspector
after the incident was brought to the notice of Hawa Singh Ghumaria, IG Jaipur
range who asked SP Tejaswini Gautam to inquire into the matter and subsequently
a rape case was filed after thorough investigation.
IG Ghumaria said that the woman reported rape on March 2, 3 and 4. During the initial investigation, Singh was allegedly found to have raped the complainant and has been arrested. A case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal code has been registered against Singh. Head constable Prakash Chand has also been suspended in the case. He is accused of making changes in the rape victim’s documents to save accused.
