Raipur (Chhattisgarh), September 13: Chhattisgarh
Police have arrested two persons on charges of abduction, gang-rape and murder
of a young woman in a village in Bemetara district (around 65 kms from Raipur) on
Friday. The police said the accused killed the victim as she resisted the crime
too much.
Police claim, the suspects who are in
custody told that they killed her because she “fought too much” and they were
afraid she might identify them later. The police said that the woman, in her
early twenties, was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time as both the
accused were drunk and looking to prey on someone. She and her mother were
returning from the fields when the mother left her for taking a bath.
The victim proceeded home to prepare
lunch when the accused over powered her and dragged her to an isolated place
and took turns to rape her, but she kept on fighting them. Infuriated, they
used her dupatta to tie her hands and then later to strangulate her.
When her mother reached home, she was
surprised to see her daughter not around. After checking with neighbors and
friends, she raised an alarm. Search parties set out to find her but couldn’t till
locate her till late in the evening. When unsuccessful, they filed a missing
person’s report with the police.
A police investigations team while
visiting the village found two drunk men in “suspicious circumstances” and took
them in for questioning. During interrogation, they admitted to the crime and
took police to the location where the woman’s body was found.
Police suspect the victim knew one of
the duo, because of which they thought the victim will easily identify them
later.
