Araria (Bihar), 18 July: A school
headmaster has been arrested by Araria police for raping a class 8 student. The
accused allegedly raped the girl on school premises. The victim's father lodged
a complaint in Mahalgaw Mahila police station against the headmaster Roshan
Jamir on Thursday.
Police registered the complaint
under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sent the
victim for a medical check-up. Police also arrested the headmaster on Friday.
According to the complaint, the
victim is a 14-year-old girl studying in Utkarsh Middle School, Prasadpur in
Dumaria. Explaining the incident which led to the crime, the complaint
mentioned that on June 20 the victim got a call around 7 pm from the headmaster
Roshan Jamir. He asked the girl to come to the school to collect the mid-day
meal provision of grains.
It is notable that since the
lockdown has been announced, Bihar government has been distributing grains to
students to provide them with nutritious food as part of the midday meal scheme
which is not being provided due to the closure of schools in the pandemic.
The complaint further states that after
reaching to school the headmaster took the student to the first floor of a
school building and started sexually exploiting her.
Some youth of the village saw this
and informed the girl's parents. The girl's father reached the school with some
villagers and found the headmaster with his daughter in a compromising
position.
When the parents inquired about the
incident with the girl, they got shocked. This was not the first time the headmaster
has raped her, it was going on for the last three months. The headmaster used to
lure her to give extra grain and new clothes and rape the student.
The headmaster has also recorded her
videos in compromising situations. He used to threaten her if you don't come
to me when I call I will circulate the videos among the villagers. After this, she kept quiet and used to go to the headmaster whenever he called.
When the victim's father complained
to the mukhiya of the village regarding this matter, the Mukhiya tried to hush-up
the matter. When the villagers built pressure then a meeting was conducted and the headmaster was called for the meeting but he did not turn up for the meeting.
Then the victim's father approached
the local MP Pradeep Kumar Singh and police registered a case on Thursday after
the intervention of Pradeep Kumar.
Police station in-charge Rita Kumari said that they had registered a case against the headmaster based on the statement of the victim's father. The victim was found to be two months pregnant in the medical checkup conducted after the rape complaint was registered. After the primary investigation we will send the accused to judicial remand, Kumari added.
