Basti
(Uttar Pradesh), September 14: Even when the rest of the country is vying with
each other in reducing crime, especially those against women, the police and
the administration of Uttar Pradesh seem to be giving a free hand to the
criminals and the gory statistics show an upward trend of deteriorating law and
order scenario. At least the opposition leaders have been pointing to this time
and again.
In
a recent case of crime against woman, a teenager has been accused of raping an
8-year-old minor girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti. The accused, who is absconding
since the incident came to light, is the victim’s neighbour and a distant relative
as well.
This
Sunday, the incident has been reported, where the 8-year-old girl was allegedly
raped in the sugarcane field in Dabaulia, as per the victim’s father.
Superintendent
of Police, Ashish Shrivastava said that they received a call at 6 pm on Sunday
evening regarding the incident. “The person complained that his 8-year-old daughter
was allegedly raped by a neighbour”. We immediately reached the spot and sent
the victim to a female clinic for treatment.
The
girl is undergoing treatment in a hospital and she is in stable condition now, Shrivastava
added. According to information, the 16-year-old accused is a neighbour of the
victim and also a distant relative.
“A
case has been registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of
Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 376 (rape) and Protection of Children from
Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. We are trying to arrest the accused and will
investigate further after we arrest him”, said Shrivastava.
