Pali (Chhattisgarh),
May 31: In an incident which sent shock waves, a 23-year-old man raped his
mentally challenged sister in Pali, in the central Indian state of
Chhattisgarh.
The incident occurred on
May 23 at Vananchal hilly area of Pali. The accused man raped his 19-year-old sister
when she was sleeping alone in her room while their mother was asleep in
another room.
According to the
police, around 8 pm, the young man went to her sister's room and raped her. He
then threatened his sister of dire consequences if she reported the matter to
anyone.
Fearing for herself,
the girl didn’t report the matter to anyone initially. Also, she was unable to
understand what happened to her so she didn't tell anyone about the alleged rape.
However, her mother
noticed that the girl was walking with a limp and so she inquired about it.
Then, girl told her mother about the pain she was going through. After
questioning her daughter, it didn't take long for the mother to understand what
happened to her daughter.
The mother then
related the whole incident to her husband and other family members. Then, the
victim, her mother and other relatives went to police station to file a
complaint which was registered in Pali Police Station.
Police sent the girl
for medical checkup. Police also arrested the accused and produced him before
the magistrate. He was sent to judicial remand.
Police inspector
Leeladhar Rathore said that the accused had tried to rape his sister one year
ago also, but that time the parents and other family members didn’t report the
matter but instead thrashed the boy.
However, this time,
the parents decided to report the matter and so they filed a complaint.
