Bhagalpur, (Bihar), May 23: The Bhagalpur police have arrested a private hospital employee Jyothi Kumar last week in connection with the sexual harassment of Ruchi Roshan during the treatment of her husband Roshan Chandra Das.
Roshan Chandra Das, who was employed in a private company in Noida, was infected by the Coronavirus when he visited his mother’s place in Kahalgawn on Holi. Roshan Das and his wife Ruchi Roshan had both gone to Kahalgawn together.
Roshan Das was admitted to Glocal hospital at Bhagalpur. After that he was referred to Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College, Bhagalpur and later he was shifted to a private hospital in Patna, where he breathed his last. After her husband's death, Ruchi went back to Noida.
Later, several videos of Ruchi, alleging molestation and harassment at the Bhagalpur hospital and misbehaviour at another private hospital in Patna besides negligence in the treatment of her husband had gone viral on social media.
Based on this, Bhagalpur SSP Natasha Gudiya formed a three-member team to probe the case. The team contacted the victim over the phone and registered a complaint at Bhagalpur Mahila Thana.
Bhagalpur SSP Natasha Gudiya informed that the accused Jyoti Kumar was arrested and produced at Bhagalpur Court and sent to judicial remand. Further investigation is underway, the SSP added.
Asking about why it took so long to report the incident, Ruchi said that she was scared to report this incident because her husband was getting treatment in the hospital. “I was scared if I take any strong action against this misbehaviour by the hospital staff they might not give proper treatment to her husband”, she said.
She wanted her husband to get well soon and get discharged from the hospital. In her video statement, Ruchi said, the hospital staff Jyoti Kumar tried to pull her dupatta before her husband. Her husband saw this but he wasn't in condition to do anything. When Jyoti Kumar started inappropriately touching her, she somehow managed to escape from the situation but still pleading with Jyoti to take good care of her husband.
She alleged that the hospital staff was not taking good care of the patients in the hospital. Her husband was sleeping in the bed where he had passed urine but non one made any effort to change the bedsheet. Whenever my husband needed anything he used to give me a call. As I was not allowed to stay in ICU, I was sitting outside the hospital.
In her video, Ruchi said that her fight is against the employees and the hospital management who were responsible for killing her husband. In her heartbreaking video, Ruchi demanded an in-depth inquiry of the hospital authorities/owners and the state government so that she gets justice.
